Compartment measurement

Procedural Video

•Indication: to determine intra-compartmental pressures, and diagnose compartment syndrome
•Equipment: Stryker kit which includes transducer, 18G needle, saline filled syringe
•Technique: Assemble items as indicated by kit.  Generally, transducer attaches to needle at 1 end and saline filled syringe at other.  Small amount of saline injected thru to needle,  then needle placed into compartment while holding transducer level, avoiding air entry into syringe.  Pressure <10 normal, >30 requires fasciotomy to prevent muscle necrosis
•Complications: cell death, muscle necrosis, contractures
